I just received confirmation of my first Teaching Experience placement and was stoked to see that my first preference had someone in the school willing to have me into their classroom.
So how did I end up choosing my schools?
I don’t have a car so physical proximity is a huge issue for me. Fortunately I live in an area with plenty of schools and is also close to major arterial roads so I came up with a list of 20 schools that were within easy walking distance/on direct public transport routes from my house.
From that 20 I thought about age group of students I would like to teach and also looked the school’s websites to get a ‘feel’ for the school’s philosophy in order to nail down to 5 schools to put down on my placement list.
Before submitting my form I looked at reports from the Education Review Office to ensure I wasn’t putting my hand up to go into a school with major management issues and then left things up to the placement office to secure a teaching experience for me.
Things have suddenly started to get very real.
All the best for the teaching experience time. What age group?

A Year 7/8 class. So they’ll definitely keep me on my toes!

I like your process of elimination – good on you.
Now I hope it lives up to your findings.
Year 7/8 is a wonderful age. Enjoy!

Thanks for dropping by, as with anything there’s always a risk that things could turn out horribly.
But I like that my course gave me some options, rather than just assigning me to a school.
