My class and I were talking about things we are appreciative in our lives.
The first thing I mentioned was my job.
“You actually enjoy teaching?” one of my students gasped.
“Of course I do, why do you seem so surprised?” I wondered.
“It’s just most adults don’t like their jobs.” Another shrugged.
I wanted to mention that I had an office job I hated so much I used to cry on the bus every day I went to work. That it took a horrible series of life events to finally give me the courage to quit. And even though money was incredibly tight the year I took off to go back to varsity, one bad day of teaching was worth a 1,000 good ones in an office.
But you can’t be what you can’t see.
These kids had plenty of experience of adults disliking their jobs, the teachable moment was here.
“It can be hard to find a job you love but if you can find it, make sure you appreciate it every single day.”
Was that moment for me or them?
I’m not sure.
“It can be hard to find a job you love but if you can find it, make sure you appreciate it every single day.”
So true! I totally agree with this!

Yes. And it’s okay not to know what that job might be. I was 37 when I found the job I love. And it was scary starting my third career. But loving what you do all day sure makes a difference to your whole life!
