Parent involvement – why do we wait until the end of the unit?

“This is a mini-exhibition so we’re going to have parents in at the end of the task…”

As we are throwing ideas out it suddenly occurs to me that this is an assumption that needs to be killed in schools. Why do we wait until the exhibition the final project to invite parents in.

For all the tweets and posters flying about the edusphere on fostering a growth mindset, too often children are showcasing finished presentations and pieces of writing to their parents.

Why not get the parents mid-way through?

That way the children get the feedback an opportunity to act on feedback and the parents get a chance to be a real part of the learning process with the kids.

If we are really true to our values, it’s better to showcase them to talk about them.
