Why every day should be a read aloud day #wrad

Today is world read aloud day.

In the past I’ve celebrated this day by making movies and connecting online.

But today I find myself celebrating in the power of stories.

Over the last few days our chapter book Wonder, has provoked so many discussions.

About justified force.

Polio.

Today it was the holocaust.

Through fiction the children are learning about the world as once was.

And that picture wasn’t always a rosy one.

Through shared stories the children make sense of their place in the world. They ponder ethical dilemmas and actions that have unintended consequences. They learn right from wrong.

Story time gives children a chance to relax and let their mind wander into and through the story.

Every day is a read aloud day in class.
