“Lets go out for a game…”

We’re wrapping up for the week.

The home learning has gone out.

Loose ends have been tied up.

There’s 20 minutes to go.

In grand New Zealand teacher tradition:

“Why don’t we go out for a game?”

It was like a sudden jolt of energy had been sent through the classroom.

“A game?”

Friday afternoon games used to be a solid staple growing up. In New Zealand, I’d often take my class out for a quick 10-15 minute game when I saw energy levels flagging.

Yet here I am sticking myself in a box.

Sure that air-conditioned box is a nice respite from the tropical heat, but that’s not my kids need.

As we are heading into the last few weeks of term, tempers are starting to flare small disagreements are starting to escalate. The kids are getting tired.  Part of their learning right now is on maintaining relationships and teams.

“I wish we could do this every day…”

Maybe we need to.
