Listening to what the child isn’t saying…

It was just a small comment in a long conversation with learner about a book we were reading in class.

I’d almost thought nothing of it.

But a few hours later that comment was still bothering me.

There was something not quite right.

 

What was the child not saying in that comment?

As it turned out, there was something in that comment that wasn’t being said.

During the ride home tonight I wondered how close I’d been to not taking action. I seethed at the many other moments I might have missed through to not noticing what was not being said…
