Many people outside of education assume that teaching is all about content transmission of knowledge. Teachers have knowledge in our brains which the students come to school to learn about.
Many inside education see teaching as about providing children with meaningful and rich experiences to learn.
But then there is hard stuff we don’t talk about, helping children to navigate growing up. Most days this is in the background. we talk about in terms of decisions and maintaining relationships. Other days, this can be your whole day.
It can be easy to moan and complain, the days spent focusing on behaviour rather than learning. But then you remind yourself that this, right now, is the child’s learning and that’s exactly the place you need to be.
